Chocolate lovers rejoice in abundance of chocolate. Diamonds are a coveted jewel. Re-naming brown diamonds chocolate diamonds elevates the stone to a special place. Brown diamonds are literally of the earth. Diamonds are made from carbon. The nitrogen atom spacing and earth’s pressure affects color and the jeweler’s carving affects the stone’s shape and design. Diamonds range from white through yellows to browns. Nitrogen produces the yellowing, irradiation the greens, then add heat to that combination and any number of color hues can emerge. The varying shades of brown give the diamond different names and chocolate diamonds are a newer name for an old stone. The French Chief Minister loved and collected brown diamonds. The Lesotho Brown diamond discovered in 1967 was the first significant brown diamond.
Chocolate Diamond History
Chocolate diamonds can be brown or tan or dark chocolate (the most valuable of the brown diamonds). They are mined similarly to white or clear diamonds, typically, but not solely from the Argyl Diamond Mine in Australia. They are also mined in Brazil and South Africa. The lighter browns are sometimes called champagne diamonds. They can look dull if not cut with a sparkle enhancing design.
The diamond manufacturer LeVian called them chocolate diamonds to cash in on the popularity of chocolate. Thus the diamond became far more appealing to the masses. Chocolate is a catchy term, making the diamond right for every day and also for special occasions, including graduation day or a Valentine's Day gift for either gender. There are chocolate diamond engagement rings. Cost is determined by rarity, deep color and clarity, but they are always less expensive than a comparable size and cut of a clear diamond.
Brown and Chakra – Chocolate Diamonds and Energy
Chakra is a moving energy center within the body believed by some to be affected by different stones and crystals. The crystals and stones represent an organized tangible structure in the natural world. The diamond can relate to the brow chakra for clarity and insight. Chocolate diamonds aren’t crystal clear but a deep rich brown. The stone itself isn’t the source of energy but its reflection is. Chocolate diamonds, worn for healing or for style, are a clever name for a brown stone.
Brown is a root color, part of the first chakra. If blocked, there is fearfulness, anxiety and lack of energy. Smokey quartz has been called a gem of this chakra for healing purpose. Brown, the color of the earth, can be stabilizing and solid or grounding. Some brown stones are brown tourmaline, brown topaz, brown selenate, brown jade, amber, and tiger’s eye. Brown diamonds worn by or near the crown of the head as in earrings or necklaces or even rings may double as a chakra or may simply bring a pleasure from something beautiful. Diamonds share their light with other stones. Brown and white diamonds together may help create a needed balance.
Men or women can wear brown chocolate diamonds. Although not as dazzling as clear and white diamonds, these chocolate diamonds have an everyday appeal that can work for many occasions. Wear a brown chocolate diamond for economy and beauty if not for Chakra balance. Chocolate diamonds appeal to men and fashion-conscious women. Chocolate diamonds have been spotted on celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz and Halle Berry. Perhaps the good feeling from wearing the diamond is derived from the energy effects of the stone.
